In this paper we use the finite elements method to solve the parabolic equations. The temperature field and the distribution of thermal stress were computed with first boundary condition and third boundary condition in high hollow pier of the bridge. Furthermore, on the basis of experiments we offer a choice of initial condition, boundary condition and thermal parameters. The numerical results we computed are consistent with the practical surveyed values of the temperature field and the thermal stress. This paper is available for computing the thermal stress of general engineering constructions.
