Using Gaussian approximation of mode field, the analytical solution of the rate equations that describe an Er-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is investigated, and a formula of signal gain isobtained for single-mode pump in the case of small signal power. With this formula, it’s easy to find the relations between signal gum and the main parameters Of fiber.
