Ab-initial calculations were performed to study the solid-gas interface between Indium Oxide(100)
ITO(100)surfaces and oxidizing gas(O2)
reducing gas(NH3).The bonding patterns
surface reconstruction and electron density map were also analyzed to illustrate the effect of those gas molecules on the surface charge.The calculated results indicate that the top layer metal atoms of ITO and In2O3 extend after geometric optimization
leading to two different complex environments of sub-layer O atoms.Electrons flow from d orbitals of metal atoms to the empty orbitals of O2 in the process of absorption
releasing high density of holes and improving the hole injection efficiency of the surface
whereas
NH3 donates its sp3 electrons back to the empty orbitals of metal on the surface
resulting in low hole injection efficiency.
