A novel chitosan derivative was synthesized by the reaction of chitosan with p-aminobenzoyl chloride working under high-intensity ultrasound. The structure of the product was characterized. The results confirmed that amino groups on chitosan reacted with p-aminobenzoyl chloride to form the p-aminobenzoyl chitosan. The antibacterial assessment indicated that the minimum inhibitory concentration values of the product to Escherichia coil
Staphylococcus aureus and Aspergillus niger were 0.1%
0.1% and 1%
respectively. It was also found that the antibacterial activity of the product was stronger than that of chitosan.
