Chlorprothixene, a nofluorescent substance, can be transformed into a highly fluorescent product by oxidation. This paper studied the oxidation of chlorprothixene by reaction with the dilute nitric acid and developed a new high sensitive fluorimetric method with the detection limit of 0.002 mg/L （6.33×10 -9 mol/L）. The linear relationship between the fluorescence intensity and the concentration of chlorprothixene is over the range of 0.004 0 .1 mg/L.
